Congratulations to Emily Anderson for receiving the DAR Good Citizens Award for Loyola College Prep. Finalists are voted on by faculty and the winner is determined by the senior class. Emily was recognized this week after mass in front of the student body. Mrs. Anna Beth Clark presented Emily with her award.
The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, created in 1934, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.
Anderson is involved in in cross country, track, F.Ai.T.H., SGA, National Honor Society and is the president of Key Club.
“Emily is such a great representative for our school for the DAR award and as a Flyer in the community,” said Principal John H. LeBlanc. "We are proud to have her at Loyola, and she deserves this recognition."
This award recognizes and rewards high school seniors who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree.
Once a student is chosen as their school's DAR Good Citizen the student is invited to participate in the scholarship portion of the program. This consists of a personal statement and an essay.
Scholarships are awarded to essay winners at the chapter, state, division, and national levels
