Mrs. Lina Perez's Spanish students took place in the third annual Spanish Spelling Bee on Oct. 5. Georgia Valero won first place, and Karlo Penales came in second.
The Spanish Spelling Bee is a project for Mrs. Perez's Spanish 4 class, and every student in Spanish 2, Spanish 2 Honors, and Spanish 2 Honors had to participate as a part of their lesson.
"The Spanish Spelling Bee is important for these students because not only do they have to spell the words they are working on in class, but spelling is a necessary skill for communication in a second language," said Mrs. Perez. "This is a fun way to help motivate our students to develop that skill."
Student leaders for the Spanish Spelling Bee included Declan Chmielewski, Charlotte Cole and Julieta Recendiz.
Fun fact: Declan created the trophies using the 3D printer in Mrs. Kiley Pulliam's class.
