Help us congratulate Wes Kyle, a 2000 graduate, as he takes over as head coach for the boys soccer team. Coach Mark Matlock will focus all of his efforts on the Loyola College Prep girls soccer team after coaching both teams last year.
“I am honored to accept the head coaching position at Loyola,” said Kyle. “This is a prestigious program and has such a rich tradition of faith, sportsmanship, and spirit that is second to no one in this community. I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Coach Matlock who filled the gap over the last year after Coach Trey Woodham stepped down to focus on his responsibilities as the principal at St. John Berchmans Catholic School.”
The Loyola soccer team went 11-9-1 last season, and Kyle said he is ready to create an environment for everyone to be successful. Klye has an extensive playing and coaching background. During his time as a player at Loyola he received All District and All City honors in soccer and football. He went on to play soccer at Texas A&M University Commerce. Most recently he was an assistant coach at Captain Shreve High School and has held other coaching positions for youth soccer in the Ark-La-Tex, Dallas and East Texas regions.
“Wes is going to take our boys soccer program to the next level,” John LeBlanc, Principal at Loyola, said. “We always love welcoming our alumni back as faculty and coaches. I have seen Wes as a student athlete, and I have followed his coaching career over the years. He understands the expectations we have of our students and athletes, and I know our boys soccer team will exceed our expectations next year.”
Kyle said he’s excited to come back to Loyola as a coach, and wear his old school colors once again and continue the Jesuit tradition of creating men and women of conscience, character and compassion both on and off the field.
“I have high expectations and goals for this program, and I look forward to teaching a faith-based soccer curriculum that rewards hard work, good sportsmanship and puts God above all in everything we do,” he said.
Kyle is married to Nicole, and they have a son Graham who is going into 8th grade at St. John Berchmans and a daughter, Presley, who is starting at Caddo Middle Magnet in the fall. When he’s not coaching, he enjoys traveling with his family and supporting his kids’ competitive teams.
