Brandon Gauthier ‘02 discovered early on in high school the importance of hard work and the strength of Loyola’s community.
Today, those two things have continued to stick with him in his career and his personal life. Last month, Brandon’s newest book Before Evil was published, and he gives credit to his days at Loyola for pushing him to achieve his goals.
“What I most appreciate about Loyola was that I learned the value of hard work,” he said. “Everything I have achieved since--from completing my Ph.D. at Fordham University to publishing my new book Before Evil--comes down to the fact that I learned how to sweat at LCP. I will always be grateful for that.”
Brandon loved the caring environment and the supportive community Loyola provided as a student. From his classmates he still keeps in touch with to the bonds he made on the soccer field, Brandon appreciates to this day how much the Loyola family truly cares about its students.
“I always felt that the administration at LCP (particularly Ms. Whited as principal) wanted the best for every student as an individual--that's something every adolescent deserves; and that's what LCP delivered,” he said.
After graduating from Loyola in 2002, Brandon attended Elon University where he met his wife, Phoebe on the first day of class. He studied Modern History at Fordham University in New York City, received his M.A. that year and then his Ph.D. in 2016. Brandon now lives in New Hampshire, where he serves as the Director of Global Education at The Derryfield School while continuing to teach for Fordham. He and Phoebe have two beautiful little girls--Hadley and Emmeline--and an adorable bernedoodle named Greta Lou.
What is Brandon’s advice for our students today?
“Be ambitious and dream big. There are so many extraordinary adventures you can have. Work hard every single day to achieve a larger vision--even if those goals might take many, many years to realize.”
