When the 2025 softball season begins next year, the Loyola Flyers will have a new coach. Paul McClenahan, a veteran coach of the softball travel circuit, will be taking over for Randy McGimsey as head coach. “I’m happy to take over the program,” McClenahan said. “I want the girls to grow in the team sport. We will have a very young team coming up and I want them to have the opportunity to make it a part of their lives.” McClenahan has coached travel teams at the middle school and high school levels for 10 years before moving into school administration. He will continue to serve as a teacher in Loyola’s social studies department. “Girls are a different dynamic,” McClenahan said. “You make it fun and interesting and a place where they can find a family community and they will gravitate toward that.” The Flyers were 9-7 last year and hosted a first-round playoff game. Loyola will be playing in Class 4A beginning in 2024-25. “Coach McGimsey really held the program together and laid a good foundation with the players he is leaving behind for me,” McClenahan said. “The facility is fantastic. There are a lot of positives, but we are in a period right now where we need to grow.”
