The SGA and LPA partnered to bring "Arrive Alive" to our school on September 8 to teach students about the dangers of distracted driving. The Arrive Alive Tour uses a high-tech, state-of-the-art simulator that allows participants to drive while distracted, drunk, or drugged in a fully functioning vehicle without moving or being intoxicated. The simulator allowed 178 Loyola seniors and juniors to experience the real-life dangers without the real life consequences.
In 2021, traffic fatalities rose 10.9% nationwide according to NHTSA. It is a crucial time to educate drivers on the dangers of impaired and distracted driving. The fatal crash rate for teens is 3 times greater than for drivers age 20 and over, and driver distraction is responsible for more than 58% of teen crashes. Young drivers (ages 16-20) are 17x more likely to die in a crash when they have a BAC of .08% than when they have not been drinking.
Loyola is the only school in the state of Louisiana to participate in Arrive Alive. Thank you to the SGA and the SGA sponsors for organizing and the LPA for making this event possible. We are committed to educating and protecting our students outside of the classroom, and this is one way we are able to do just that.
