Physical Education is based upon the acquisition of knowledge and skills that are the foundation for engaging in physical activity. Our mission is to empower all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for healthy, productive, and fulfilling life. Students learn and discuss information relating to the principles of health and skill-related fitness, exercise, and nutrition. Students will participate in fitness exercises and skills, including floor exercises and running. Physical Education may be taken as either a one semester (0.5 credit) course or a full year (1.0 credit) course. Health is a required one semester class at Loyola College Prep. Students learn the interrelationships of mental, emotional, social, and physical health throughout the lifespan; the short-term and long-term health impact of decision-making on health-related issues and problems; the causes, symptoms, treatment, and prevention of various diseases and disorders; predict and analyze how healthy behaviors can affect health status; and asses personal health practices.
